Concrete Post Base with Stainless Steel Adjustment Plate
This is the foundation that decides whether your pergola is still standing in twenty years or sagging in five. A 150 mm concrete post base anchors your timber upright into the ground, while the included stainless steel adjustment plate keeps the post itself raised clear of standing water. Together they solve the two problems that finish off most outdoor timber: ground contact, and bases that can never quite be tweaked once the concrete has set.
You get the mass and stability of a precast concrete plinth combined with the precision of an adjustable steel saddle. Once installed, you can plumb your post properly, then forget about it. The black finish blends quietly into most garden settings rather than fighting for attention, and the M16 threaded fixing point gives you a confident, structural connection between base and post.
Why a concrete base?
Burying a timber post directly into concrete is one of the worst things you can do to it. The post wicks moisture up its end-grain, can’t breathe, and rots from the inside while looking sound on the outside. A concrete post base solves this with a precast plinth set into the ground, with the post bolted on top. End-grain stays dry, airflow keeps it that way, and if a post ever does need replacing, you swap it out instead of digging up your patio.
Installation guidance
Dig a foundation hole below the local frost line, set the concrete base into wet mortar or fresh concrete, and check it for level and alignment before everything cures. Once the base is solid, bolt the stainless steel adjustment plate onto the M16 threaded insert, then secure your timber post to the plate. The plate’s slotted holes allow fine adjustment for plumb, which matters more than you’d think when you’re aligning a run of pergola posts.
Finishing & maintenance
The concrete base is finished black and needs no maintenance. The stainless steel plate is corrosion-resistant grade and can be left untreated. Most of our customers fit and forget. If you’d like a more uniform look between base and post, a flexible exterior sealant in matching colour around the base joint tidies the visible line at ground level. We stock the right products if you’re unsure which to pair with masonry and timber.
