Ecowood Fence Panels for Sale in Ireland
Ecowood is the name we give our kiln-dried softwood. Kiln drying brings each board to a predictable moisture content, so the boards stay straight and stable once the panel is up, and the quality is consistent from one panel to the next. The timber arrives in a warm honey-brown tone with an even grain. With proper care, Ecowood has a service life of 25 years and beyond.
It is the natural choice if you want a real timber fence that looks good for years without paying hardwood prices.
The Joyce Ecowood panel, gate and frame
The Joyce range lets you build a whole boundary in one matching timber:
- Joyce fence panel (1800×1800 mm): a full height panel that hangs between posts for privacy along a garden boundary.
- Joyce Ecowood garden gate set (1000×1950 mm): a matching gate made from 140×16 mm boards, supplied with a cylinder lock, handles and stainless steel fittings.
- Joyce Ecowood gate frame (1500×2100 mm): a frame with a stop beam, so the gate has something solid to close against.
You will find the gate and frame in our garden gates range. The calculator on the product page works out how many panels your run needs.
Ecowood vs other timber fence panels
Ecowood is the all-round choice in our timber fence panels. If you want a different look, compare:
- Douglas fir fence panels: a strong softwood with warm reddish-pink tones, in slatted and trellis styles.
- Spruce fence panels: factory finished in black for a modern boundary.
- Hardwood fence panels: dense timber for the longest lasting fence.
Putting up an Ecowood fence
Ecowood is straightforward to install, whether you do it yourself or use a contractor:
- Set the posts square and plumb, and keep the bottom of each panel a few centimetres clear of the soil.
- Use A2 or A4 stainless steel fixings outdoors, and pre-drill near board ends to prevent splitting.
- Expect slight colour variation between boards. It is part of the natural character of the timber.
Post caps and other fittings are in our fencing accessories.
Looking after an Ecowood fence
Ecowood doesn’t need treating before it goes up, but left bare it weathers to silver grey over 12 to 18 months. Most people oil it within the first few months to keep the honey-brown colour, then refresh it every year or two. A UV protective oil for softwood from our exterior oils and stains keeps the fence and gate looking new and helps the timber shed water.
Ecowood is one of the species in our full timber fence panels range, stocked in our warehouse and delivered across Ireland.
Frequently Asked Questions About Ecowood Fence Panels
What is Ecowood?
Ecowood is our own brand of kiln-dried softwood. Kiln drying gives each board a predictable moisture content and good stability, so the boards in a panel stay straight and the quality is consistent from one panel to the next, at a price well below hardwood.
How long does an Ecowood fence panel last?
Ecowood offers a service life of 25 years and beyond when properly looked after. Keep the bottom of the panel clear of the soil, fix it with stainless steel, and oil it every year or two to keep the timber in good condition.
Should I oil my Ecowood fence?
Ecowood doesn’t need oil to go up, but left bare it weathers to silver grey over 12 to 18 months. Most people keep the warm honey tone with a UV protective oil for softwood, applied within the first few months and refreshed every year or two. See our oils and stains.
Is there a matching Ecowood gate?
Yes. The Joyce Ecowood garden gate set matches the Joyce fence panel, and a Joyce Ecowood gate frame with stop beam is also available.
