        Decking Trims & Fascia

Decking trims and fascia boards finish the edges of a composite deck, hiding cut board ends, hollow chambers and the frame beneath. We stock fascia boards, bullnose edge boards for perimeters and steps, and corner trims, each colour matched to its own decking range. Pick the trim made for your boards and choose the length on each product page, all stocked in our warehouse and delivered across Ireland.

Composite decking trims for a finished edge

A composite deck is not finished until its edges are. Cut board ends, the hollow chambers of hollow boards and the joists of the frame all show around the perimeter, and decking trims are what cover them. Our composite decking trims are made in the same colours as the boards they go with, so the edge reads as part of the deck rather than something added afterwards.

          Types of decking trim

There are three kinds of trim, and most decks use at least two of them. Which you need depends on where the edge is and how high the deck sits.

          Fascia boards

A fascia board runs flat against the side of the frame, hiding the joists and the ends of the deck boards on a raised deck. It is the piece most often forgotten on the first order. For Puraboard decking there is a 150 x 15 mm solid composite fascia in six colours to match the boards, and PuraPro has its own composite fascia in Charcoal, which finishes the deck without showing the hollow board ends.

          Edge boards and bullnose

An edge board has a rounded front edge. It finishes the outer line of the deck and dresses step nosings and changes of level, so it is the trim for steps as well as perimeters. The Puraboard bullnose is solid composite to match the grain of your boards, in Refined Grain in six colours, or Rustic Grain in four colours at 200 x 25 mm. The PuraShield co-extruded edgeboard is 138 x 22.5 mm in six colours, with the same protective cap as PuraShield boards, and the PuraPrime edge board is a 140 x 22 mm bullnose perimeter board for PuraPrime decks, in five colours.

          Corner trims

Corner trims are angle profiles that wrap the external corners where two faces meet, giving a sharp, clean line. The PuraFix co-extruded corner trim comes in six colours and is made from the same hard wearing composite as PuraShield boards, while the PuraFix composite corner trim comes in five colours to match PuraPro, PuraPlus and PuraPrime decking.

Matching trims to your decking range

Each trim is made for its own board range, so start from the boards you have chosen. Puraboard composite decking takes its own fascia and bullnose, PuraShield composite decking takes the co-extruded edgeboard and corner trim, PuraPrime composite decking takes its edge board and the composite corner trim, and PuraPro composite decking takes its own fascia. Pick the same colour name as your boards and the edge will match.

How many decking trims do I need?

Measure the perimeter of the deck for fascia or edge boards and count every external corner for corner trims, then add a piece or two for cuts and returns. The calculator on the board page works out your boards from the deck area, and the cart adds the fixings, so the trims are the one thing to add by length. Choose the length on each product page; longer trims mean fewer joints along the edge.

          Fitting decking trims

Trims go on last, once the boards are down:

          • Fascia first: fix it to the side of the frame with stainless screws into pre drilled pilot holes, leaving expansion gaps at the joints.
          • Edge boards next: run them around the perimeter and along step nosings, in one length where you can.
          • Corner trims last: fix them over the external corners with screws into pilot holes near the ends of each piece.

Composite trims need no painting or oiling. Clean them along with the deck boards and they stay the same colour as the rest of the deck.

Decking trims in Dublin and across Ireland

Every trim is stocked in our Dublin warehouse with the boards it matches, delivered across Ireland. The same corner trims also finish composite cladding, so you will find them with our cladding trims too. For screws, joist tape and balustrades, see all our decking accessories.

Frequently Asked Questions About Decking Trims & Fascia

A fascia board faces the side of the substructure, hiding the board ends and joists. An edge board or bullnose has a rounded front edge that wraps the outer edge of the deck and dresses steps. A corner trim is an L-profile that covers external corners.

PuraPro has its own fascia board, PuraPrime has a matching edge board, PuraShield has edgeboards and co-extruded corner trims, and Puraboard has fascia and bullnose boards. Composite corner trims suit PuraPro, PuraPlus and PuraPrime.

Face-fix them to the substructure with stainless screws into pre-drilled pilot holes and leave expansion gaps at the joints. Where you can, run one continuous length rather than mitring the corners, as it looks tidier.

Last, once the boards and the edge or fascia are in place. Fix them with composite screws into pre-drilled pilot holes near the ends of each piece to prevent splitting. The same trims can also finish the external corners of composite cladding.

Measure the perimeter of your deck for fascia or edge boards and count every external corner for corner trims, then add a piece or two for cuts and returns. Ordering the trims with your boards keeps the colours from the same production batch.
