                    Decking Pedestals

Adjustable decking pedestals for a level deck on sloping patios, slabs, balconies and flat roofs. PuraFix pedestals come in four height ranges, from 10 mm to 210 mm, and carry 40 or 60 mm joists on a threaded cradle you twist to level. They won’t rot or rust, and they are stocked in our warehouse for delivery across Ireland.

Adjustable Decking Pedestals for Sale in Ireland

Decking pedestals let you build a dead level deck over a base that isn’t: a sloping patio, a concrete slab with falls, or a flat roof or balcony you can’t screw into. Each PuraFix pedestal carries a joist on a threaded cradle, so you twist it up or down to take out the dips. They are stocked in our warehouse and delivered across Ireland.

                      Pedestal Height Ranges

Measure the gap between your base and the underside of the joists at the highest and lowest points, then choose the range that covers it. You can mix ranges on one deck.

                      • 10 to 45 mm: for low decks and floors on a near level slab.
                      • 35 to 60 mm: for patios and balconies with gentle falls.
                      • 60 to 110 mm: for bigger falls, or to raise the deck to meet a door threshold.
                      • 110 to 210 mm: for steeper slopes and raised decks on uneven ground.

How Many Decking Pedestals Do You Need?

Plan on at least 6 pedestals per square metre. Use closer spacing for heavier traffic and wider spacing only on a light domestic deck, following the bearing distance table on the product page. A 4 m x 3 m deck (12 m²) needs at least 72 pedestals.

                      Specification

                      • Joist width: the cradle takes bearing timber 40 mm or 60 mm wide, with an anti twist support that holds each joist square.
                      • Load: a recommended working load of 0.8 kN per pedestal against a characteristic capacity of 1.26 kN, settling just 1.3 mm at working load.
                      • Testing: independently load tested to DIN EN 1991-1.
                      • Material: polypropylene copolymer, which won’t rot or rust and shrugs off weather, UV and insects.

                      Building a Deck on Pedestals

                      • Sweep the base clean and mark out the joist lines.
                      • Set a pedestal at each end of every joist line and level between them with a string line, then fill in at the spacing you need.
                      • Lay the joists in the cradles, check level and adjust each pedestal.
                      • Fix your boards to the joists as normal. Clean pedestals only with mild soapy water, as solvents can attack the plastic.

Pedestals work under both composite decking and timber decking. For joists and everything else under the deck, see our decking substructures.

Frequently Asked Questions About Decking Pedestals

Plan on at least six pedestals per square metre. Use closer spacing for heavier traffic and wider spacing for a light domestic deck, following the bearing-distance table for your load.

PuraFix pedestals come in 10 to 45 mm, 35 to 60 mm, 60 to 110 mm and 110 to 210 mm. Within each range you twist the threaded ring to set any height, so you can level out a sloping or uneven base.

The cradle takes bearing timber 40 mm or 60 mm wide, so it suits most standard joists and battens. A built-in anti-twist support holds each joist square, and the timber is laid on the cradle rather than screwed down.

Each cradle has a recommended working load of 0.8 kN against a characteristic capacity of 1.26 kN, and settles by just 1.3 mm at working load. The pedestals are independently load-tested to DIN EN 1991-1.

No. They are moulded from polypropylene copolymer, which shrugs off weather, UV, insects and rot. Clean them only with mild soapy water, as solvents and harsh degreasers can attack the plastic over time.
