Why choose a timber garden room
A garden room gives you a proper extra room outside the house without a building project. Ours are modern timber garden rooms supplied as DIY kits, for a home office, a studio, a gym, a snug or a covered dining space. Each kit comes flat packed with the frame, cladding, roof and doors, and a confident pair can build one over a weekend.
A garden room is not a house extension. It has no insulation, plumbing or electrics in the kit, so if you want to use it as a heated room all winter, plan those in with your installer before you build.
Modern Range garden room sizes
The Modern Range is our main garden room. Each model is named after its width in millimetres, and every model is 3 m deep apart from the 6400, so pick the size by what you will do inside it, and measure the space you have, leaving room to get round the back for maintenance:
- 3000 (3×3 m): a compact home office or studio for one person.
- 4000 (4×3 m): room for a desk and a sofa, or a covered dining table, and still a comfortable fit in a regular family garden.
- 5000 (5×3 m): a larger room for a studio, a home gym or two people working.
- 6000 (6×3 m): an extra large room for bigger gardens.
- 6400 (6×4 m): our largest garden room, with deluxe triple glass sliding doors as standard.
Choosing walls, cladding and doors
The Modern Range is built to your plan. The choices change how enclosed the room is and how it looks from the house:
- Sidewalls and rear wall: add them for a fully enclosed room, or leave them off for an open fronted shelter.
- Slatted cladding: clean, modern lines that read as a designed feature.
- Feather edge cladding: a softer, natural look for gardens with relaxed planting.
- Deluxe triple glass sliding doors: they close the front and let in light. They come as standard on the 6400.
The roof is finished with an EPDM rubber membrane over roof battens, with matching modern roof trims.
Plus Range: black walls and a heavier frame
The Plus Range 6000 is 6×3 m, with Swedish rebate walls impregnated black at the factory, two black trellises and 120×120 mm uprights. It adds bevelled roof boarding, fascia boards and side water drainage, for a darker, more solid look than the Modern Range.
Garden room with pergola: open or closed
If you want shelter without walls, an open pergola marks out an outdoor room while keeping it connected to the garden. Our wooden pergolas come in four square sizes from 3×3 m to 6×6 m, with an open roof you can plant with climbers or cover with a sail shade later. For a pergola with walls and a solid roof, see our closed pergolas.
What’s in the kit and what you need to add
The Modern Range kit includes planed uprights, the ring beam, purlins, your chosen cladding, roof battens, the EPDM roof membrane, the doors and the roof trims, with step by step instructions. Nothing in it needs specialist tools. You add:
- A level base: a concrete slab, properly bedded paving or a timber deck base. The base is not included, and skipping it is the biggest cause of problems after the build.
- Stainless steel fixings: pre-drill near board ends so the joints stay tight.
- A finish, if you want one: see the last section.
Timber or composite garden rooms
Our garden rooms are timber: the Modern Range is built from treated softwood, which lasts for decades without yearly upkeep. If you want the low maintenance look of composite, you can clad a timber frame with composite cladding, which never needs oiling. For a natural wood exterior on your own build, see our timber cladding.
Garden room prices in Ireland
Each garden room’s current price is on its product page. The size is what moves the price most, followed by the range: the Plus Range has a heavier frame and factory finished walls. Remember to budget for the base, which is not in the kit.
Looking after your garden room
Left bare, the timber weathers to a soft silver grey over twelve to eighteen months, so most people apply a UV protective oil within the first few months to keep the warmer colour, and refresh it every two or three years. Choose a penetrating product from our exterior wood oils and stains, avoid film forming paints and varnishes, and clean with a soft brush and a diluted neutral cleaner rather than a pressure washer.

Frequently Asked Questions About Garden Rooms
Are your garden rooms timber or composite?
Our garden rooms are timber. The Modern Range uses treated softwood, which gives decades of useful life without annual upkeep, and the Plus Range uses walls impregnated black at the factory.
What kind of roof do the garden rooms have?
The kits include roof battens and an EPDM rubber roof membrane, finished with matching roof trims on the Modern Range. The Plus Range adds bevelled-edge roof boarding, fascia boards and side water drainage.
What base does a garden room need?
A level, stable foundation is essential: a concrete slab, properly bedded paving or a timber deck base all work well. Skipping this step is the single biggest cause of problems after the build, so set it up before the kit arrives.
How long does it take to build a garden room?
Allow a full weekend for a confident two-person build, longer if you are new to timber construction. Nothing in the kit needs specialist tools, and step-by-step instructions take you from setting the uprights to dressing the roof.
What is the difference between the Modern Range and the Plus Range?
The Modern Range offers slatted or feather edge cladding with glass sliding doors in several sizes. The Plus Range 6000 is 6×3 m with black impregnated Swedish rebate walls, two black trellises and 120×120 mm uprights for a darker, more solid look.
Do garden rooms need maintenance?
Very little. You can let the timber weather to silver-grey over twelve to eighteen months, or apply a UV-protective oil within the first few months and refresh it every two or three years. Clean with a soft brush and diluted neutral cleaner, never a pressure washer.
How much does a garden room cost?
The price depends on the range, the size and the options you choose, such as sidewalls, rear walls and doors. The base is not included as standard. Each garden room page shows its current price, and the cart totals your order.
