Egger MFC or Finsa Superpan?
Choose the range by the décor and the sheet size you need.
Egger MFC
Egger MFC comes in one 2800×2070 mm sheet for every décor, so you can mix finishes and keep the same panel size. Most décors are 18 mm, with some in 16 mm and a few in 8 mm, and there are over 100 of them, from oak, walnut and acacia woodgrains to whites, greys, blues, greens, stone and concrete effects. It is the range for large kitchens and furniture runs, and for projects that need a wide colour choice with matching edging.
Finsa Superpan MFC
Finsa Superpan MFC comes in the standard 2440×1220 mm sheet, with Cambrian Oak also in 2440×600 mm panels, all 18 mm thick. The décors are oak and walnut woodgrains, plus plain finishes. It suits smaller joinery projects and anyone who wants a smooth, dense surface over a light core.
MFC vs MDF
MFC has a chipboard core with a finished melamine face. MDF is a denser fibreboard with a plain surface. Choose MFC for flat panel furniture that should arrive ready to use. Choose MDF for routed, profiled or painted work.
Working With Melamine Board
- Cutting: use a fine tooth blade and score the face first to avoid chipping the melamine.
- Edges: every cut exposes the chipboard core, so finish visible edges with our colour matched ABS edging.
- Fixing: confirmat screws, dowels and standard cabinet fittings all hold well. Pre-drill first.
- Moisture: the standard core is not moisture resistant, so keep MFC to dry interiors and edge every cut.
- Cleaning: wipe with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive pads and solvents.

The standard chipboard core in our MFC is not moisture resistant, even though the melamine face wipes clean. Keep it to dry interiors, edge every cut, and keep it away from standing water, bathrooms and splashbacks.
How do I cover the cut edges of MFC?
Any cut exposes the chipboard core, so finish visible edges with ABS edging. Our rolls are colour and texture matched to the Egger décors we carry.
What screws or fittings hold best in MFC?
Confirmat screws, dowels and standard cabinet fittings all hold well in the core. Pre drill before fixing, and keep shelf spans sensible, adding a mid support on longer runs so an 18 mm shelf does not bow.
How do I clean MFC?
Wipe it with a damp cloth and a little mild detergent. Avoid abrasive pads and harsh solvents, which dull the surface, and never sand or try to refinish the melamine face.
