                Decking Screws & Fixings

Decking screws and fixings hold a composite deck down: hidden fasteners clip each board to the joists from the side, and colour matched screws fix the edges, steps and board ends. We stock PuraFix 3 mm and 6 mm hidden fasteners, a 3 mm starter clip, 5.3 x 58 mm stainless steel decking screws in six colours, coloured screws for our other ranges and the EdgeGuide. Choose by your board range, stocked in our warehouse and delivered across Ireland.

Decking screws and fixings for composite decks

Every composite deck is held down by two kinds of fixing. Hidden fasteners do most of the work, clipping each board to the joists from the side so the surface stays clear. Decking screws do the rest, at the edges, steps and board ends where a clip cannot reach. Our PuraFix decking hardware covers both, with screw heads coated to match the colour of your boards so the fixings you can see blend into the deck.

                  Types of decking fixing

The range splits into hidden fixings and visible screws, with a screw guide for Puraboard. Most decks need a hidden fastener system plus a set of colour matched screws.

                  Hidden decking fasteners and clips

Hidden fasteners sit between the boards and fix them to the joists from the side, so no screw heads show on the walking surface. They also set the gap between boards automatically, which keeps every run straight and even. The installation guide for your board range tells you which fastener it takes.

                  • PuraFix 3 mm hidden fastener: fixes boards along each joist on ranges installed with a 3 mm fastener.
                  • PuraFix 6 mm hidden fastener (pack of 100): the same job on ranges installed with a 6 mm fastener.
                  • PuraFix 3 mm hidden starter clip (pack of 50): holds the first board of a run against the frame, so the rest of the deck starts square.

                  Decking screws and screw guide

Screws are for the places a clip cannot do the job: edge boards, fascia and skirting, corner profiles, stair treads, and the first and last boards of a run.

                  • PuraFix stainless steel decking screws (5.3 x 58 mm, set of 75): corrosion resistant, with heads coated in Cedar, Teak, Ipe, Light Grey, Dark Grey or Ebony Black to match PuraShield boards. The Ebony Black set is the one to choose for black decking screws.
                  • PuraFix coloured decking screws: in Walnut, Oak, Silver Ash, Slate Grey and Charcoal, matching the colours of our other composite ranges.
                  • PuraFix EdgeGuide: a reusable metal screw guide made for Puraboard decking. Its pre set holes line up each screw along the board edges, so you get straight, evenly spaced fixings without measuring every one.

How many decking screws and clips do I need?

You do not need to count clips yourself. The calculator on each board page works out the boards from your deck area, and the cart adds the matching fixings automatically. For visible screws, count the fixing points along your edge boards, fascia, corner trims and steps, then add a few spare. Each stainless set holds 75 screws.

                  Fixing a composite deck

The fixings go in the same order the deck is built:

                  • Start square: fix the starter clip to the frame and seat the first board in it.
                  • Clip each board: put a hidden fastener at every joist, then slide the next board in so the fastener sets the gap.
                  • Screw the edges: fix the last board, edge boards, fascia and stair treads with colour matched screws, using the EdgeGuide on Puraboard for a straight line.
                  • Finish the corners: screw the corner trims on last, once everything else is fixed.

Build the frame first on our decking substructures, and protect any wooden joists with joist tape before the boards go down.

Decking screws in Dublin and across Ireland

All of our decking screws and fixings are stocked in our Dublin warehouse alongside the composite decking they are made for, so boards and fixings arrive together, delivered across Ireland. For trims, joist tape and balustrades, see all our decking accessories.

Wherever a clip can’t do the job: edge boards, fascia and skirting, corner profiles, stair treads and the first and last boards of a run. Our PuraFix screws have colour-coated heads so these visible fixings blend in with the boards.
