Finsa Superpan MFC Cambrian Oak
Finsa Superpan MFC Cambrian Oak gives you the warmth of a natural oak grain with none of the finishing work, ready to cut and assemble straight off the sheet. It is one of the most specified oak-effect décors in Irish kitchens, wardrobes and fitted furniture, and for good reason: a smooth, hard-wearing melamine surface bonded to Finsa’s patented Superpan core, certified to E1 and CARB2 for low formaldehyde and backed by FSC or PEFC chain of custody. We keep it stocked in our yard in Dublin for fast delivery anywhere in Ireland.
Why Finsa Superpan?
Superpan is what sets this board apart from ordinary melamine-faced chipboard. Finsa build it in a single continuous press, wrapping a light particle core between two faces of fine wood fibre, so you get the smooth, dense surface of MDF with the strength, screw-holding and economy of chipboard. In practice that means cleaner cut edges with far less chipping, a firmer grip on screws and fittings, and noticeably less sag across a span.
Cambrian Oak itself is a warm, mid-tone oak woodgrain that reads as natural timber across a run of doors or carcasses, and the colour and texture stay consistent sheet to sheet, which matters when you are matching a full kitchen or a wall of wardrobes. The sealed melamine surface is hygienic and genuinely hard-wearing, shrugging off the scuffs and spills that solid timber would show. It is made for interior furniture, shelving and fit-out, not for structural use.
Working with the board
Finsa Superpan MFC Cambrian Oak is one of the most forgiving boards to work with, which is a large part of why joiners reach for it. At a full 2440 x 1220 mm (8×4′), this is the standard sheet most kitchens, wardrobes and carcassing are designed around, so you cut less and waste less on a typical run. It machines cleanly on a panel saw, router or CNC, drills and screws without pre-drilling in most positions, and goes together into cabinets and shelving quickly. The Superpan core holds fixings firmly, so hinges, runners and connectors all sit tight.
For the crispest finish on the melamine face, use a fine-tooth TCT blade and a scoring cut, or back the cut line, so the décor does not chip along the edge. The exposed core is not decorative, so finish any cut edges with matching iron-on or machine edging for a furniture-grade result. One honest word of caution: the standard Superpan core is an interior board and is not moisture resistant, so keep it away from bathrooms, utility splashbacks and anywhere it meets standing water. Ask us about the moisture-resistant grade if the job needs it.
Finishing & maintenance
There is no finishing to do on the face, which is rather the point: the melamine arrives sealed and ready, so you skip the sanding, priming and lacquering that solid timber demands. Where you do have a choice is at the edges, and both routes are sound. Pre-glued iron-on edging in matching Cambrian Oak is the quick, tidy option for one-off and on-site work, while machine-applied edging gives the most durable, seamless edge on production runs. We stock the matching edging for this décor, so ask us and we will pair it to your boards.
Day to day it asks very little of you. Avoid sanding or trying to refinish the face, and skip abrasive pads and harsh solvents, which dull the surface. A wipe with a damp cloth and a little mild detergent keeps it looking right for years, whichever edging route you took.
