Puraboard Solid Composite Decking, Rustic Grain
Puraboard is the premium tier of the composite decking range. A fully solid plank rather than a hollow-chambered one, with a rustic grain surface, more heavily textured for a closer match to weathered timber, with the substance, weight, and feel of a solid timber board. Underfoot it walks like hardwood; cut, milled, or routed it works like hardwood; in service it carries the long-term composite credentials that make hardwood unattractive in a wet climate.
Ash Grey is a clean mid-grey with a subtle cool bias, restrained and modern without feeling cold. It works as a confident neutral against most materials and tones in a typical Irish garden.
Why rustic grain?
The rustic grain surface is the more heavily textured of the two Puraboard finishes, with a deeper tactile profile that reads as weathered or character-grade timber rather than smooth-milled. It’s the choice when the deck is set in a more naturalistic context, near older architecture, or where the visible texture is part of the design intent. Underfoot the grip is slightly higher than the refined grain, particularly when wet.
Where it makes sense
Country-set gardens, decks adjoining traditional or rural buildings, and projects where the deck is intended to feel lived-in rather than recently installed. Ash Grey reads particularly well across the heavier grain texture, where the variation in surface depth gives the colour additional visual movement.
Installation guidance
As for the refined grain Puraboard: heavier than hollow composite, joists at 350 mm centres or tighter, hidden clips, full expansion gaps. Face-fixing is straightforward thanks to the solid section. The Puraboard installation manual covers the rustic grain variant alongside the refined grain.
Care & maintenance
The deeper grain texture holds slightly more dust and pollen than the smoother refined-grain finish, so an extra rinse a season is worth the small effort. Avoid pressure-washing on full power. The Puraboard care guide covers approved cleaning products and the right approach for textured surfaces.
