4-Way Corner Post Connector for 150 mm Posts
Building a pergola the traditional way means cutting joints, drilling through-holes, and praying that everything still lines up by the time you’ve climbed down the ladder. A corner post connector replaces that whole process with one black-finished steel sleeve that holds your post and beams in perfect alignment. This four-way version handles a four-way junction at the centre of a pergola, and it does it in roughly the time it takes to drink a cup of tea.
You’re getting structural steel finished with a textured black coating that looks deliberate rather than apologetic. The connector slips over the top of a 150 mm timber post, accepts the incoming beams, and locks everything together with through-bolts. The result is a joint that’s stronger than what most DIY carpenters could cut by hand and looks every bit as confident as a designed metal-and-timber pergola.
Why use a connector?
Traditional timber-on-timber joints rely on tight cuts to do their work. Get the cuts wrong and the joint moves. Get them right and the timber still moves seasonally, opening gaps over time. A steel connector takes the alignment and load-transfer job away from the timber and gives it to a piece of engineered steel, which doesn’t shrink, twist, or split.
Installation guidance
Designed for 150 mm square posts. Slip the connector over a cleanly cut post top, drop the incoming beams into the receiving channels, and fix through with M10 or M12 structural bolts (not supplied). For pergolas, install the connector before raising the post into final position; for repairs, the connector can be fitted in place if access allows. Tighten bolts in a star pattern to avoid uneven loading.
Finishing & maintenance
The textured black finish is its main protection and its main aesthetic feature. Most of our customers leave it untouched, since the texture hides minor weathering well. If you want to refresh it or match a specific paint colour after several seasons, an exterior metal paint over a clean, dry surface works well. We stock the right products if you’d like to ask which to pair with structural steel hardware.
