Introduction

Timberireland.ie is the website where you can find out about and purchase ‘Timber Ireland’ products and services.

Safeguarding the privacy of your personal data is an important part of how Timberireland.ie is designed and operated. We aim to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Irish Data Protection Act 2018, and to respect the rights these laws give you.

‘Personal data’ means information that relates to and can identify you. Some categories of personal data are treated as ‘special category’ (sometimes called ‘sensitive’) and require extra care — for example information about your health, religious beliefs or ethnicity. In the normal course of using timberireland.ie we do not ask you for special category data, and we would ask that you not include such information in messages to us unless we have specifically arranged it with you.

Personal Data We Collect

Depending on how you use the site, the personal data we may collect and process includes:

When you contact us — If you use a contact form to send a message, request a sample or apply to become a stockist, we typically ask for details such as your name, email address and phone number so that we can identify your enquiry and respond to it. This information may be handled in our connected systems (such as our email) so that we can deal with your request. We will not use these details for unrelated purposes unless you ask us to.

When you place an order — To process and fulfil an order through our online shop, we may collect details such as your name, billing and delivery address, email address, phone number, the items you order and related order information.

Payment information — Payments are generally handled by third-party payment providers. Card and payment details are usually entered directly with the payment provider rather than being stored by us. Please refer to the relevant provider’s own privacy notice for how they handle your information.

Account information — If you create an account, we store the information needed to manage it, such as your contact details and order history.

Technical information — Like most websites, we may automatically collect limited technical data such as your IP address, browser type and how you use the site, mainly through cookies and similar technologies (see below).

Please avoid including special category (sensitive) information in any forms or messages. If we ever need such information from you, we will arrange that with you directly.

How We Use Your Data and Our Legal Basis

We use your personal data to respond to enquiries, process and deliver orders, manage your account, meet our legal and accounting obligations, and — where you have agreed — to send you updates. Depending on the activity, we rely on legal bases such as performing a contract with you, your consent, our legitimate business interests, and compliance with legal obligations.

Sharing Your Data

We may share your data with third parties where it is necessary to provide our service, for example:

  • delivery and courier partners, so that orders and samples can be delivered to you;
  • payment providers, to process payments;
  • service providers that help us run the website and our business (such as hosting and analytics providers).

We only share what is reasonably necessary for these purposes, and we do not sell your personal data.

Where Your Data Is Stored

We aim to store and process personal data within Ireland or the wider European Economic Area (EEA) where practicable. However, some of the service providers we rely on (for example certain analytics or hosting services) may process data outside the EEA. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, as required by data protection law.

Cookies

Cookies are small files placed on your computer or device that help the website recognise your visit and function properly. The cookies and similar technologies used on our site may include:

  • Essential cookies that make core features work, such as your shopping cart and the checkout process.
  • Analytics cookies, which help us understand how visitors use the site.
  • Form cookies, which support our contact and enquiry forms.

Where required, we ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies, and you can manage or disable cookies through the tool on our site or through your browser settings. Disabling non-essential cookies should not prevent you from browsing the site, although some features may work less smoothly. For more general information on cookies you can visit the guidance published by the Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie.

Your Rights

Under data protection law you have a number of rights regarding your personal data. These may include the right to access the data we hold about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, to request erasure or restriction of processing, to object to certain processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details below.
