Treated C24 Timber
4.5×1.5 treated whitewood, 115 by 35 mm, is the deeper treated stud, for partitions and external framing that have to carry services in a damp environment: bathrooms, utility rooms, plant rooms and outbuilding walls with pipework in them. Strength-graded to C24 and kiln-dried below 22% moisture content before treatment. Lengths run from 3 m to 5.4 m. Stocked in our warehouse for delivery across Ireland.
Why treated C24?
Any wall containing pipework is a wall that will eventually get wet, whether from a slow joint, a burst or years of condensation on a cold pipe. The extra depth over a 100 mm stud lets services be drilled through cleanly rather than notched, and the treatment buys time when something does leak. The two together are what stop a service wall becoming a repair.
Installation guidance
Drill service holes on the centre line of the stud depth and treat the inside of every hole, since a drilled hole exposes untreated core in exactly the place water will sit. Keep holes clear of the top and bottom quarter of the wall height. Use stainless fixings anywhere the wall could wet, because a corroding fixing in a damp stud is a second failure waiting behind the first.
Finishing & maintenance
Let the frame dry before boarding so the plasterboard does not take up moisture from the studs. Seal properly around any pipe penetration. For a dry internal partition, the untreated section is the sensible choice: 4.5×1.5 C24 timber rough sawn. For the other stud sizes, see our full C24 treated timber range. To compare sawn and treated sizes side by side, see our construction timber page.
