Treated C24 Timber
4×3 treated whitewood, 100 by 75 mm, is the outdoor post: pergola and carport legs, gate posts, corner posts on garden structures, and short heavy bearers near the ground. Strength-graded to C24 and kiln-dried below 22% moisture content before treatment, with preservative driven in under vacuum pressure. Lengths run from 3 m to 6.6 m. Stocked in our warehouse for delivery across Ireland.
Why treated C24?
A post fails at one place: the point where it meets the ground or the water that collects there. Everything above that line usually outlives the building. Treatment buys years at that critical point, and because the section is close to square there is no weak axis, so a post can take load and wind from any direction without a designed orientation.
Installation guidance
Use a galvanised post base or shoe and keep the end of the post clear of standing water. Setting a post directly into concrete traps water around it and will defeat even a treated section eventually. Treat the cut end at the top as well as the bottom, then cap it or cut a slight fall so rain runs off. Bolt connections through with washers both sides rather than skew nailing.
Finishing & maintenance
An exposed post takes stain or oil well once it has dried after treatment, which slows surface checking as much as it changes colour. Re-treat the top cut whenever you notice it weathering. For a covered, dry post, the untreated section is the cheaper option: 4×3 C24 timber rough sawn. Compare it with the 4.5×3 and the rest of our C24 treated timber range. To compare sawn and treated sizes side by side, see our construction timber page.
