Treated C24 Timber
6×1.5 treated whitewood, 150 by 35 mm, is the rail and light framing section for outdoor structures: fence rails, sheeting rails on a shed or stable, pergola framing, and light purlins in an open roof. Strength-graded to C24 and kiln-dried below 22% moisture content before treatment, it is certified for structural use. Lengths run from 3 m to 5.4 m. Stocked in our warehouse for delivery across Ireland.
Why treated C24?
A rail is horizontal, which is the worst orientation timber can have outdoors: water sits on the top face instead of running off it. That is why fence and sheeting rails are the first thing to go on an untreated structure. Pressure treatment addresses the decay directly, and the C24 grading means the rail can be specified for a real load rather than just assumed to be strong enough.
Installation guidance
Fix rails with the 150 mm dimension vertical so you keep the stiffness, and use coach screws or bolts into posts rather than nails where the rail carries sheeting. Treat the cut end at every post. Where a rail is notched into a post, treat the notch itself and avoid cutting more than a third of the way through.
Finishing & maintenance
Timber left in the open will grey whether or not it is treated, so apply an exterior stain if appearance matters and let the timber dry first. Re-treat cuts and any deep scratches. For a rail inside a dry building, use 6×1.5 C24 timber rough sawn. Heavier rails and joists are in our full C24 treated timber range. To compare sawn and treated sizes side by side, see our construction timber page.
