Outdoor Pergola, Willow Range
Add a defined, characterful outdoor room to your garden in a single weekend. The Willow Range Pergola is a self supporting open roof timber structure designed to mark out a dining, lounging, or entertaining area without closing it in; the kind of feature that turns an ordinary lawn into somewhere you actually want to spend an evening. At 4 metres square, the 4000 variant hits a comfortable middle ground; large enough to shelter a six seater dining table or a substantial lounge setting, contained enough to sit cleanly within a regular family garden. Use it how you like: open to the sky for long summer evenings, dressed with climbing roses or grapevines for a romantic green canopy, or topped with sail shades and side panels later if you decide you want more shelter. Designed and milled in Europe, supplied as a complete kit, and stocked in our yard for delivery across Ireland.
Why the Willow Range?
The Willow Range gets its name from the soft, pale cream tone of the timber: light, decorative, and a natural fit for country gardens, courtyards, and contemporary back gardens alike. The proportions have been worked out so the structure feels substantial without dominating its surroundings, with planed uprights, generous ring beams, and clean lines that read as architectural rather than rustic. Because the components are pre cut and machined to consistent dimensions, the finished pergola looks crafted rather than improvised; the kind of detailing that lifts a garden from “tidy” to “designed”. It’s a timber structure first and foremost, so it will weather and silver naturally over the seasons if you let it, settling into the garden the way only real wood does.
What’s in the kit and how it goes together
The Pergola arrives as a complete DIY kit with all the timber sections cut to length, the fixings and brackets you need, and step by step assembly instructions. Two competent people with basic tools can put it up in a weekend; most of the work is bolting prepared components together rather than cutting or shaping timber on site. Set the uprights on a level, stable base (concrete pad, paving slabs, or post anchors all work well) and follow the supplied plan for sequence and bolt torque. You don’t need to be a carpenter to get a professional looking result, but pre drilling near the ends of any board you fix into is always wise, and stainless steel fixings will keep the joints clean for the long haul.
If you’re new to outdoor structures, the most common pitfall is rushing the foundations. Take your time getting the uprights truly plumb and the base properly level before bolting the ring beam down, and the rest of the build falls into place. We can talk you through the prep on the phone if you’d like a second opinion before you order.
Finishing and maintenance
The finishing decision is yours to make, and either option produces a pergola you’ll be happy with for years. The natural route is to leave the timber untreated, letting it silver to a soft weathered grey over the first couple of seasons; a low maintenance, naturally elegant finish that many of our customers choose deliberately for the relaxed, lived in look it gives a garden. The preserved route is to treat the timber with a UV protective oil or pigmented stain to lock in the pale cream tone for longer and add an extra layer of protection against the wettest of Irish winters. If you choose to oil or stain, we stock the right preservatives and finishes; ask us if you’re unsure which to pair with your kit. Avoid film forming paints and varnishes; a penetrating oil or breathable stain is what suits a structure like this. A soft brush and diluted neutral cleaner once a season is all the routine cleaning a pergola of this size needs.
