8 mm flexible plywood cross grain is the thicker of the two bendy ply boards, bending the opposite way to the long grain sheet. It suits gentle, wide curves where you want the finished panel to feel solid rather than skinned.
Long sweeping curves are the work: bar and counter fronts that run around a bend, curved shopfronts and display work, wide radius walls, and curved seating backs. The extra thickness earns its place on anything people will touch or lean on, because a bar front in 5 mm fixed to ribs gives under a hand between the supports and this board does not.
Cutting and handling
Cut it supported along its whole length with a fine toothed blade, steadily, since the soft core tears if the blade is coarse or if you force it. Handle and store it flat, never on edge: a crease across the face will crack open the moment the sheet is glued to a curve, and it cannot be pressed out again.
Fixing and painting
Space the ribs behind it closer than you would for a flat panel, because any flat between supports reads as a dent once the curve is finished and filling it afterwards rarely disguises it. Expect spring back if you are laminating, so make the former a little tighter than the finished shape and let the panel relax into the curve rather than out of it.
Where not to use it
Cross grain and long grain are the same board turned through ninety degrees, and only one of them will wrap the way your job needs. Decide by asking which dimension of the sheet has to follow the curve and which stays straight, and check it twice, because a sheet ordered the wrong way round will not bend to the job however much you persuade it. For a tighter radius use the 5 mm cross grain sheet. There is a fuller explanation on the flexible plywood page, with the other grades on the plywood page.
