Baltic birch plywood treated to Euroclass B-s1,d0 under EN 13501-1
The fire-retardant chemistry is impregnated through every lamination rather than coated on the surface, so cut edges, rebates and exposed plies hold the same B-s1,d0 classification
Meets EN 13986 and EN 314-2; bonded to a graded standard for predictable performance
11 thin, void-free laminations in 18 mm give you a denser core, a cleaner exposed edge
Face veneer can chip on cross-cuts without a sharp blade and proper support beneath the cut
Best kept dry; not intended for sustained wet or exterior exposure

18 mm fire retardant plywood is a birch board treated to Euro Class B-s1,d0. That classification is the one most specifications ask for on a wall or ceiling lining, and this is the board to buy when a fire rating applies to the panel itself.
The classification comes in three parts. B is the reaction to fire, the highest class a timber product realistically reaches and well above untreated plywood at class D. The s1 is smoke, the lowest of three categories, meaning very little of it. The d0 is burning droplets, the best of three, meaning the board does not drip flaming material onto whatever is below. The treatment is forced into the timber under pressure rather than painted on, so it goes right through, which matters practically because cutting the board does not remove the protection and cut edges stay rated.
Cutting and handling
At 36.4 kg it is a two person lift, the same as untreated birch. Cut it good face upwards with a fine toothed blade and score the line where an edge will be seen. Keep the delivery paperwork: on a certified job you will be asked to show the documentation for the board, and it is much easier to hold on to it than to chase it afterwards.
Fixing and painting
Check any finish before you apply it, because paints and coatings can change the surface behaviour of a treated board and on a job that has to be certified that matters. Ask the supplier of the finish whether it is compatible with a Class B substrate. The birch core gives you the dense void free edge and the screw holding that comes with it, so it takes fixings like any other birch board.
Where not to use it
For ordinary domestic work where no class is specified, standard 18 mm birch plywood is the sensible choice and costs a good deal less. Reaction to fire is not fire resistance either, so read which the specification is asking for. There is more on the rating on the fire retardant plywood page, and the rest of the range on the plywood page.
