Ecowood Half Lap Cladding Board
Ecowood gives you a clean, wide cladding board with a long outdoor life at a friendly price. It is a pressure impregnated softwood, treated right through so you get easy handling and low cost with the exterior durability the raw timber would never have on its own. The half lap profile laps board over board to shed water neatly down the wall. Stocked in our yard for delivery across Ireland, in a wide 195 mm face at 18 mm thick.
Why Ecowood?
Untreated, this softwood is not a durable timber, so Ecowood does the sensible thing and treats it. The boards are pressure impregnated so the preservative carries deep into the wood, not just on the surface, which is what turns an inexpensive softwood into cladding that lasts outdoors. Fresh from treatment it can carry a faint green or olive cast, which fades as the boards weather, and the wide 195 mm face covers ground quickly for a tidy, economical elevation.
Installation guidance
Ecowood hangs like any softwood cladding and suits a confident DIY fit as much as a trade one. Fix over battens with a ventilated gap behind so the boards can dry between wettings. Use stainless steel fixings to be safe against staining, and let the half lap do its job, each board lapping the one below so rain runs off the face. Keep the bottom edge clear of the ground, and pre drill near ends to avoid splitting. The treatment protects the board, but a cut end is raw, so brush a preservative onto any fresh cuts.
Finishing & maintenance
You can take Ecowood two ways. Leave it and the boards weather to a soft silver grey, no upkeep required beyond the odd wash. Or colour it with a breathable exterior stain once the timber has fully dried out after treatment, which can take a few weeks, and keep a warmer or darker tone.
Most of our customers let a fence run or a shed silver and stain a house elevation. Avoid film forming varnishes and interior finishes, which trap moisture in treated softwood and peel. We stock exterior stains that suit it, so ask us which to use. Whichever way you go, a soft brush wash with clean water now and then is all it asks.
