Treated C24 Timber
6×3 treated whitewood, 150 by 75 mm, is the outdoor beam: pergola and carport beams, deck ledgers, exposed purlins, and trimmers in open structures. Strength-graded to C24 and kiln-dried below 22% moisture content before treatment, it is supplied with the certification needed for sign-off. Lengths run from 3 m to 7.2 m. Stocked in our warehouse for delivery across Ireland.
Why treated C24?
A deck ledger is the connection that fails most often on a raised deck, and almost always because water got behind it. A treated 6×3 ledger with the right detailing is what stops that. The 75 mm thickness also resists the twisting that an exposed beam suffers as it wets and dries through the year, which a thinner section will not.
Installation guidance
Where a ledger fixes to a wall, use a spacer and flashing so water can drain behind it rather than sitting against the face, and bolt through into the structure rather than into render or blockwork alone. On a free standing beam, hang joists off it with galvanised hangers and treat every cut. Do not notch a beam of this section anywhere along its span.
Finishing & maintenance
Beams on show should be stained or oiled once dry, and the ends kept sealed, since end grain on an exposed beam is where water enters fastest. Inspect fixings annually on anything carrying a deck. The internal equivalent is 6×3 C24 timber rough sawn. For longer spans, compare the 7×3 and 9×3 in our C24 treated timber range. To compare sawn and treated sizes side by side, see our construction timber page.
