25 mm MDF is the top and shelf board in the wide sheet. The width is what most people are really buying: ripped down the middle a 1220 mm sheet gives two pieces just over 600 mm, while this one gives two just over 760 mm, and deep shelving, counter and desk modules mostly sit above 600 mm.
From the narrow sheet each of those rips throws away a strip; from this one they come off clean and the sheet count on a fitted run drops with them. The size also gives whole pieces that no standard sheet can produce: an island top, a refectory or boardroom table, a deep reception counter, a full width desk return. The edge on all of those is profiled, and a joint in a profiled edge stays visible, because it is lit from the side along the front and no amount of filling hides a step in a bullnose.
Cutting and handling
At 83.7 kg and oversized in both directions this is three people in practice, on edge, with the route measured beforehand, since it will not turn on a domestic landing or clear some doorways. Cut it down where it is delivered, on the flat with a track saw and full support underneath, because a sheet this size overhangs any bench. Store it dead flat on bearers and never leaning: a panel this heavy takes a permanent bow within days and a bowed island top is an expensive loss.
Fixing and painting
Run the edge profile in two or three light passes rather than one deep one, because a single heavy pass burns the core and leaves a fuzzy edge along the front. Pre-drill fixings into the edge and keep them back from the corner. Prime face and edges with a dedicated MDF primer, sand between coats, and give the profile an extra coat before the topcoat.
Where not to use it
The core swells once it gets wet and does not recover, so if the job is a kitchen, a bathroom or a utility room use the moisture resistant grade instead. The rest of the thicknesses are on the Standard MDF page, and the wider range is on the MDF boards page.
