Sustainably sourced and FSC certified; no added formaldehyde, compliant with CARB 93120 Phase 2 and NAF
Workability of standard MDF in a panel rated for exterior and wet-interior use
Cut edges should be sealed with an exterior primer or edge sealer to maintain the warranted performance
Outdoor fixings should be stainless or hot-dip galvanised to match the panel's service life

6 mm Tricoya is the thin sheet in a range of MDF you can genuinely use outside. It suits door skins, soffits, exterior signage and infill panelling, anywhere a thin panel has to sit outdoors and still take a painted finish.
Tricoya is built from acetylated wood fibres. Acetylation chemically modifies the wood so it will not take up water the way untreated fibre does, which engineers out most of the swelling and shrinking that destroys ordinary MDF outdoors. The performance is backed by a 50 year warranty above ground and 25 years in ground contact, and the panel resists fungal decay. It is FSC certified with no added formaldehyde.
Cutting and handling
It machines exactly like MDF, which is the point of it: sharp router profiles, clean cuts and a face that takes a finish without filling. Use a fine toothed blade and cut with extraction or outdoors, wearing a P2 or P3 mask, because MDF dust is fine whatever the fibre has been through. At 12.5 kg a full sheet is light enough for one person to carry and cut, but at 6 mm it will chip along the line if you rush, so put a scrap board underneath.
Fixing and painting
Pilot near edges and use stainless or coated fixings outdoors, because the timber is stable but the fixing still has to survive the weather. Paint lasts noticeably longer on this board than on ordinary MDF, since the substrate underneath is not moving with every change in humidity, and damage to the coating does not affect the panel warranty.
Seal cut edges anyway. It is good practice and it keeps the finish even.
Where not to use it
At 6 mm it will not span or carry anything, so it needs a frame behind it. If the panel is structural, go up a thickness. And if the job is indoors and dry, you are paying for exterior performance you will never use: standard MDF is the cheaper answer. The other thicknesses are on the Tricoya MDF page, and the full range on the MDF page.
