Treated C24 Timber
3×1.5 treated whitewood, 75 by 35 mm, is the cladding counter batten: the piece fixed over a breather membrane to hold cladding clear of the wall and keep a drained, ventilated cavity open behind it. Strength-graded to C24 and kiln-dried below 22% moisture content before treatment, with preservative driven in under vacuum pressure. Lengths run from 3 m to 5.4 m. Stocked in our warehouse for delivery across Ireland.
Why treated C24?
This is the single most common treated batten on an Irish site, and for good reason. A counter batten sits outside the weatherline, wets whenever wind drives rain through an open joint, and dries slowly because it is shaded by the cladding. It is also the piece holding the cladding on. Treatment is not optional here, and the 35 mm depth is what keeps the cavity wide enough to drain and vent.
Installation guidance
Fix through the batten and the membrane into the structure behind, using screws rather than nails so the penetration stays sealed around the shank. Stainless is the safe choice behind cladding you do not intend to remove. Run battens vertically on a horizontal cladding so water can fall, stop them short at the base so the cavity vents, and treat every cut end.
Finishing & maintenance
No finish is needed on a batten that will be hidden, and the green tint is irrelevant once the cladding is up. For a dry internal service batten there is no need to pay for treatment: use 3×1.5 C24 timber rough sawn. See every batten and framing size in our C24 treated timber range. To compare sawn and treated sizes side by side, see our construction timber page.
