Treated C24 Timber
4.5×2 treated whitewood, 115 by 44 mm, is the deeper loadbearing stud for external and damp-zone walls: garage and workshop framing, external stud walls with insulation between, and any structural wall that has to hold services in a wet environment. Strength-graded to C24 and kiln-dried below 22% moisture content before treatment. Lengths run from 3 m to 5.4 m. Stocked in our warehouse for delivery across Ireland.
Why treated C24?
An external stud wall has to carry load and survive whatever gets past the cladding, which is not nothing on an exposed elevation. The 115 mm depth takes a worthwhile thickness of insulation between the studs, and the treatment protects the frame if the wall ever wets from outside or condenses from inside. Both matter more on an unheated or intermittently heated building than on a house.
Installation guidance
Friction fit insulation full depth without compressing it, and keep a ventilated cavity outside the sheathing rather than pressing cladding against it. Drill services through the centre of the depth and treat the hole. Use stainless or hot dip galvanised fixings throughout, and treat the cut end of every stud before it goes into the frame.
Finishing & maintenance
A framed wall that will be sheathed needs no coating. Where studs stay exposed inside a garage, a stain after drying keeps them clean and makes damage easier to spot. For a warm dry internal wall, specify 4.5×2 C24 timber rough sawn. Compare it with the 100 mm stud and the rest of our C24 treated timber range. To compare sawn and treated sizes side by side, see our construction timber page.
