Smooth hardwood face that takes oil, lacquer or paint cleanly; the layered edge looks the part on show
Cross-grain birch construction stays flat, resists warping, and holds screws and fixings reliably
Meets EN 13986 and EN 314-2; bonded to a graded standard for predictable performance
Suits a wide range of interior work: furniture, cabinetry, shop fitting, drawer boxes, signage, toys
Face veneer can chip on cross-cuts without a sharp blade and proper support beneath the cut
Best kept dry; not intended for sustained wet or exterior exposure

30 mm birch plywood is the thickest board in the range, and it is how you build a thick slab in one piece. Twenty one layers of solid birch, with no core and no seam anywhere in it.
The obvious alternative is to glue two thinner sheets together, and it is worse in two ways. The first you can see: a glued up board puts a line down the middle of every exposed edge, exactly where you wanted a clean stack of birch layers. The second takes longer to show, because glue between two boards creeps under a steady load, so a built up worktop or shelf slowly takes a set that a solid board does not. Long worktops, kitchen island tops, reception counters, window seats and benches are what it becomes, and what the extra depth buys is stiffness rather than strength: a board this thick holds a straight line over a span where a thinner one would be strong enough but visibly sagging.
Cutting and handling
A firm two person lift that needs a clear route in rather than one worked out on the day it arrives. Check your saw before you order, because a lot of site saws will not clear 30 mm at all, never mind at an angle. If you cannot cut it yourself, work out your sizes before you order. Rip it slowly with the riving knife in place and expect a dense board to slow the blade down.
Fixing and painting
Everything holds at this depth, including long screws driven into the edge, so build the substructure to carry the weight rather than worrying about the fixings. Sand the edge with the face and finish both together; twenty one layers of end grain take a great deal more oil than the face does, so give the edge a second pass.
Where not to use it
Gluing an edging strip to a thinner sheet is the wrong answer to the same problem, because the strip is solid timber and the board is not, so the two never quite finish alike and the join stays visible. If you do not need the depth, 24 mm is twelve kilos lighter. Wet areas want marine plywood. Everything else we carry is on the birch plywood page and the plywood page.
