Smooth hardwood face that takes oil, lacquer or paint cleanly; the layered edge looks the part on show
Cross-grain birch construction stays flat, resists warping, and holds screws and fixings reliably
Meets EN 13986 and EN 314-2; bonded to a graded standard for predictable performance
Suits a wide range of interior work: furniture, cabinetry, shop fitting, drawer boxes, signage, toys
Face veneer can chip on cross-cuts without a sharp blade and proper support beneath the cut
Best kept dry; not intended for sustained wet or exterior exposure

15 mm birch plywood in the wide 1550×3050 mm sheet, which is the size to order when the pieces you need are wider than a standard board will give you. It is the same BB/BB birch as the 8×4 sheets, in a panel that is both longer and 330 mm wider.
That width is the whole point. Rip a 1220 mm sheet down the middle and you get two pieces a shade over 600 mm. Rip this one and you get two just over 760 mm. Base units with a worktop overhang, deep shelving and most desk tops all sit above 600 mm, so every rip from a narrow sheet leaves a strip you cannot use.
Cutting and handling
This is a big panel and a genuine two person lift, so plan where it is going before it arrives and check the route in. Set your cutting list out on paper first: the saving only exists if you nest the pieces to suit the extra width, and it is easy to cut the first piece in the wrong place and lose it. Cut with a fine toothed blade, good face upwards, and support the sheet across the line rather than at the ends, because a panel this size will sag into the cut under its own weight.
Fixing and painting
At 15 mm the board takes most cabinet hardware, though a confirmat will not quite reach full depth in the edge and shelf pin holes leave less material either side than the thicker board does. Pilot every edge fixing and keep it centred in the thickness. If the edge is going to be seen, sand it up through the grits and finish it at the same time as the face, or the exposed layers will look dry beside it.
Where not to use it
Birch is an interior board. Keep it out of bathrooms, utility rooms and anywhere it will be rained on, and use marine plywood for those. If the unit is taking heavy doors or a lot of knock down fittings, the 18 mm board is what the hardware is designed around. The rest of the thicknesses are on the birch plywood page, and the other grades on the plywood page.
