Pros and cons
Thick mild steel, sized for genuine structural use rather than light furniture work
Pre-drilled holes positioned for confident fixing into both timber faces of a corner joint
Black protective finish sits cleanly against natural and painted timber
Cost-effective reinforcement at points where structures typically fail first
Visible by design at the joint; not a concealed fixing
Best results need exterior-grade structural screws into pre-drilled pilot holes, not lighter wood screws

Heavy-Duty L-Shaped Mounting Brackets
When you’re framing a pergola, fixing a beam to a post, or reinforcing a garden structure, the right corner bracket is the difference between a build that flexes for years and one that’s already complaining after a winter. These heavy-duty L-shaped brackets are sized for serious structural work, with thick mild steel and a black protective finish that sits cleanly against painted or natural timber.
You get a 90 degree corner support designed to take real load, with pre-drilled holes positioned for solid fixing into both faces of a timber joint. They’re the kind of fixing you specify when the structure has to hold, not the kind you find in a garden centre blister pack.
Why a heavy-duty bracket?
Most off-the-shelf corner brackets are designed for shelves and light furniture. Mounted on a pergola post or beam, they bend under wind load and start to rattle within a season. A heavy-duty bracket spreads load across a much larger contact area, transfers force into the timber rather than into the screws, and stays rigid where lighter brackets give up.
Installation guidance
Position the bracket with both faces in full contact with the timber and use exterior-grade structural screws (coach screws or equivalent) into pre-drilled pilot holes. Don’t be tempted to use short screws; the whole point of a bracket like this is depth of bite into solid timber. For maximum rigidity, fit brackets in pairs on opposite faces of a joint.
Finishing & maintenance
The black protective coating is durable and looks intentional against most timber finishes. Most of our customers leave it as-is. If you’d like additional weather protection or a refresh after several seasons, an exterior metal paint or cold galvanising spray will keep it sharp. We stock the right finishes if you’d like to ask which to pair with mild steel hardware.
