Malaysian Hardwood Plywood Sheet
Malaysian hardwood plywood is the structural panel of choice when you need a sheet that holds up to exposed conditions and rough handling. Built from Far Eastern hardwoods throughout, it gives you a strong, stable, hard-wearing panel for permanent structures where the board will see real working loads. We stock it in our yard in Dublin, ready for fast delivery anywhere in Ireland.
Why Malaysian hardwood plywood?
This is a high-grade structural plywood that’s less prone to bending and twisting than softer panels, with an excellent strength-to-weight ratio that makes it versatile and easy to handle on site. The Far Eastern hardwood construction gives the panel real density and impact resistance, so it stands up to the kind of site abuse that breaks lesser sheets. You’ll see it specified for flooring, beams, roofing, formwork, soffit and fascia, hoarding, and other structural applications where reliability matters more than visual finish.
Working with the sheet
At 6 mm, use a sharp TCT blade with a high tooth count for clean cross-cuts. The face veneers are tougher than softwood ply, so let the blade do the work rather than forcing the cut. Pre-drill before fixing close to an edge to prevent the laminations splitting, and stagger joints across joists or studs for the strongest assembly.
Store flat and off the ground, ideally with the edges protected. While this is a hard-wearing panel, prolonged saturation will eventually degrade any non-marine plywood; for boat-building, sustained wet exposure, or long-term external use, our Marine Plywood range is the right choice instead.
Finishing
For painted finishes, prime the face first with a quality wood primer; two coats sanded between gives you the best base before topcoating. For natural or stained finishes, sand the face progressively to 180 or 240 grit, then apply oil, wax or clear lacquer to suit the look you’re after. Edge banding or a sanded chamfer tidies up exposed cut edges where appearance matters. Ask us if you’re unsure which finish to pair with your project, and we’ll point you to what works.
