19 mm white ash veneered MDF in the 3050 by 1220 mm sheet is the tall board, for full height doors and panels where a cross joint would otherwise land in the middle of the face.
The extra 610 mm is the whole point. A standard 2440 mm sheet runs out on a full height door, a tall wardrobe end or floor to ceiling panelling, and joining it puts a line across the face exactly where the eye goes. On white ash that matters more than on a quiet timber, because the sweeping crown figure runs the length of the leaf and a joint interrupts it. Order this sheet when the panel has to read as one piece.
Cutting and handling
A definite two person sheet at 50.9 kg, and long enough to want a panel trolley or a second pair of hands at the far end rather than a hero. Score the veneer on the show face before the main cut and use a sharp fine tooth blade, because ash has long open fibres that tear more readily than a close grained timber. Support the offcut along its length so it does not drop away and tear the underside, keep the good face upwards, and work with extraction and a P2 or P3 mask.
Fixing and painting
Pilot drill and use coarse threaded MDF screws, and put dowels, a domino tenon or a mechanical fitting into any loaded joint rather than trusting the fibre to hold a thread. Lip exposed edges in solid ash before final sanding, which matters on doors and anything regularly handled. Sand to 180 or 240 grit and no further. Finish the full length in one pass where you can, because a tall panel shows a lap mark, and test the finish on an offcut first: the open pores take stain unevenly and a pigmented oil sits in the grain, giving you either a limed effect or a dirty one depending on the product.
Where not to use it
It is an MDF core, so dry interiors only and nothing damp. If the panel is short enough to come out of a standard sheet, the 2440 by 1220 mm board is cheaper and easier to handle. Every thickness and species is listed on the veneered MDF page, alongside the wider MDF range.
