Real Cherry crown-cut face veneer on a dimensionally stable MDF substrate; looks like solid timber, stays flat like a panel
A/B commercial grade: clean A-grade show face with a B-grade back at a working price point
Crown cut produces the wider, flame-figured veneer leaves that book-match across large panels
Suits furniture, shop fitting, wall panelling, doors, drawer fronts and hospitality interiors
Face veneer can chip on cross-cuts without scoring first; use a sharp blade and score the cut line
Veneer absorbs stain more strongly than solid timber; test on an offcut and consider a sanding sealer first

Cherry veneered MDF is faced both sides in real crown cut cherry over a 19 mm core. It is the cabinet thickness in the timber that changes most after it is installed.
Cherry arrives a pale pinkish tan and ripens, sometimes within months, to a deep warm reddish brown. The grain is fine, close and almost silky, with very little coarse figure. The practical consequence matters: if part of a piece is covered while the rest sees daylight, the covered part stays pale, so lay out all the panels for one job together, keep them from the same batch and expose them evenly from the start.
Cutting and handling
Two people at 40.66 kg. Score the veneer before the main pass and cut with a sharp fine tooth blade; the close grain gives a very clean edge but marks easily under a blunt one. Keep the sheets flat, stacked and out of direct sunlight while they wait, because a sheet left half covered on a bench by a window will come out two colours. Extraction and a P2 or P3 mask as usual.
Fixing and painting
Pilot every fixing, use coarse threaded MDF screws, and put dowels or a mechanical fitting anywhere the joint is loaded. Lip exposed edges in solid cherry before final sanding, and expect the lipping and the face to ripen at slightly different rates at first. Sand to 180 or 240 grit only, and never with a coarse belt. Use a clear finish rather than a tinted one and let the timber do the work, or you will end up far darker than intended once it has ripened underneath.
Where not to use it
Dry interiors, as with any MDF core. It is a poor choice where part of the piece will be permanently shaded and part in sun, since the difference will show. For a timber that stays much closer to where it started, look at white oak. Every species is on the veneered MDF page, with the rest on the MDF page.
