Light grey Valchromat is coloured all the way through, so cut edges come out the same tone as the face.
It is the quietest board in the range and that is its job. Light grey reads as a backdrop rather than a colour, so it sits behind oak, brass, plants, books or merchandise without competing with any of them, and it is the one people choose for shelving, display units and wall panelling where the contents are meant to be the point. Alongside it the fibre texture stays visible, which keeps it looking like a material rather than a painted surface.
Cutting and handling
Two people to a sheet at 48 kg. The board is harder and denser than standard MDF, so it cuts and routs cleanly with a sharp blade and blunts one faster than softwood would. Support the panel across the cut rather than only at the ends, because a sheet this heavy will drop into the blade as it comes apart. Extraction and a P2 or P3 mask, as with any MDF, and the dust here is pale enough that you will not notice it settling on a light floor until it has.
Fixing and painting
Bare, it looks pale and slightly dusty. A clear hardwax oil deepens it about a shade and evens out the surface, and on a light tone that small shift matters more than you would think, so put the finish on an offcut and look at it in the room before committing. Two coats on anything that will be touched. Screws bite well in this density, but pilot near edges and keep the fixing central in the thickness.
Where not to use it
It resists moisture but it is not waterproof, so no showers and nothing left standing in water for long. On a worktop or a heavily used desk a pale grey will eventually show ring marks and ink, so grey or khaki are easier to live with there.
