          MicroShades Posts

MicroShades posts are 69×69 mm (3×3) treated softwood posts with an eased edge and a factory-applied finish, made for deck balustrades, handrails and garden structures. Choose a shorter length on the product page for balustrade and railing posts, or a longer one for taller posts and garden frames. Because the finish goes on in the factory, they are ready to install straight from the pack, stocked in our warehouse and delivered across Ireland.

MicroShades Posts for Sale in Ireland

MicroShades is a treated softwood range that arrives with its protective finish already applied. The treatment goes into the timber in the factory, where it is more even and better bonded than anything brushed on outside, so you skip the treating step on site and the posts look finished from the day they go up. That makes them a good fit when the weather window is short or you simply want the job done in one go.

            MicroShades post sizes

All the posts share the same 69×69 mm section, the old 3×3 inch size, with an ease edge. The eased edge takes the sharp corner off each arris, so the post is kinder to hands and the finish holds better on the corners. That leaves the length as your only choice. Shorter posts suit balustrade and railing posts on a deck and short garden frames, while longer ones make taller posts for screens, planters and light garden structures, or give you extra to cut down to height.

The posts are made to work with the MicroShades handrail, base rail and spindles, so a balustrade built from one range matches in colour and profile. Browse our timber handrails to complete the run.

            MicroShades or another species?

For a heavier structure such as a pergola or carport, a bigger section suits better. Ecowood posts and beams go up to 200×200 mm, and Douglas Fir posts and beams give a traditional look. If you would rather have a dense hardwood post, compare our Yellow Balau posts, and for a dark frame see the black spruce post.

            Installing MicroShades posts

Set the posts right and the balustrade or frame above them stays straight and solid:

            • Set garden posts in concrete or on a post holder above ground level, since direct ground contact shortens the life of any softwood.
            • Pre-drill all fixings and use galvanised or stainless steel hardware rated for the load.
            • Reseal every cut end with touch-up sealer so the factory treatment stays continuous.

            Looking after MicroShades

The factory finish does the hard work from day one, and a refresh coat every two or three years keeps the colour deep and the protection whole. Using a matching maintenance product means the refreshed surface looks the same as the original, so the whole balustrade stays even. You will find them with our exterior oils and stains.
