Treated C24 Timber
9×3 treated whitewood, 225 by 75 mm, is the largest treated section in this range: main beams in open structures, heavy deck bearers, ridge beams on carports and garden buildings, and long spanning members carrying real load outdoors. Strength-graded to C24 and kiln-dried below 22% moisture content before treatment, it is certified for structural use. Lengths run from 3 m to 8.4 m. Stocked in our warehouse for delivery across Ireland.
Why treated C24?
When one member has to carry a roof or a deck outdoors, this is the section that does it in solid timber rather than steel or glulam. That matters outdoors because a solid treated section has no glue line to fail and no exposed flange to protect. The weight is real: an 8.4 m length is around 67 kg, so it is a two-person lift and worth planning a hoist for.
Installation guidance
Bearing is critical. Give at least 100 mm onto a padstone or a galvanised seat at each end, never directly onto blockwork without a DPC, and make sure water cannot collect in the bearing pocket. Never notch or drill a beam of this size. Where beams meet over a support, bolt a plate across the joint and treat both mating faces before closing it up.
Finishing & maintenance
Seal the end grain and coat the whole beam with an exterior finish once it has dried, then keep an eye on the top face, which takes the most weather. Inspect the bearings rather than the middle: that is where an outdoor beam actually deteriorates. The internal equivalent is 9×3 C24 timber rough sawn. Browse all C24 treated timber beams and joists, from 4×3 up to 9×3. To compare sawn and treated sizes side by side, see our construction timber page.
