Smooth hardwood face that takes oil, lacquer or paint cleanly; the layered edge looks the part on show
Cross-grain birch construction stays flat, resists warping, and holds screws and fixings reliably
Meets EN 13986 and EN 314-2; bonded to a graded standard for predictable performance
Suits a wide range of interior work: furniture, cabinetry, shop fitting, drawer boxes, signage, toys
Face veneer can chip on cross-cuts without a sharp blade and proper support beneath the cut
Best kept dry; not intended for sustained wet or exterior exposure

6 mm birch plywood is the thinnest sheet in the range that holds its own shape across a gap, which is why it is the usual choice for wall panelling. It is five layers of solid birch, with no chipboard or softwood core.
Panelling is the main one. Fixed to battens at normal spacings it stays flat in between, so you do not need to board the wall out first, and shaker frames, fluted strips and slatted detail can all be cut from a single sheet and fixed straight to the battens. It also makes a much better cabinet back than the thin stuff: sat in a groove around all four sides, a 6 mm back holds a wardrobe or a tall unit square rather than just keeping the dust out. That groove is the other reason people choose plywood here, because a 6 mm birch tongue survives being tapped into a groove and survives being taken apart again, where the same edge on a fibre board tends to crumble.
Cutting and handling
Still a one person board, and it will take a gentle curve if the radius is generous. Cut it good face upwards with a fine toothed blade and support it close to the cut line, because at this thickness the sheet flexes if you only hold it at the ends and the cut wanders.
Fixing and painting
Drill a pilot hole for any screw landing within about 20 mm of an edge. Birch grips a screw better than most boards, but five layers is not many, and without a pilot the screw finds a glue line and follows it. If the edge will be on show, sand it to a fine grit and leave it bare: at 6 mm the stripes read as a fine line rather than a feature, which suits panelling.
Where not to use it
Not in a bathroom or anywhere it will get wet, where marine plywood is the right board. It is also still a panel rather than a structure, so anything you intend to screw into the edge of should be 9 mm or thicker. You can see the other thicknesses on the birch plywood page, alongside the rest of the plywood range.
