Real Maple crown-cut face veneer on a dimensionally stable MDF substrate; looks like solid timber, stays flat like a panel
A/B commercial grade: clean A-grade show face with a B-grade back at a working price point
Crown cut produces the wider, flame-figured veneer leaves that book-match across large panels
Suits furniture, shop fitting, wall panelling, doors, drawer fronts and hospitality interiors
Face veneer can chip on cross-cuts without scoring first; use a sharp blade and score the cut line
Veneer absorbs stain more strongly than solid timber; test on an offcut and consider a sanding sealer first

Maple veneered MDF carries real crown cut maple on both faces of a 19 mm board. It is the cabinet thickness in the quietest looking timber we carry.
Maple is very pale, close grained and almost featureless compared with ash or oak, which is exactly why it gets specified. It reads as a clean surface rather than as a timber, so it sits behind displayed objects, in laboratories and clinics, and in modern interiors where the joinery is meant to disappear. The trade off is that a pale, plain surface hides nothing: a dent, a mark or a proud joint that oak would swallow is plainly visible here, so the work has to be tidier than it would on a figured board.
Cutting and handling
At 40.66 kg it is two people or a trolley. Score the face veneer and use a sharp fine tooth blade, because the fine grain burnishes and a scorched line on a pale timber is obvious from across a room. Keep hands and bench clean while you work: maple picks up a dirty glove mark that a light sanding will take out, but it is easier not to put it there.
Fixing and painting
Pilot before every screw, use the coarse threaded MDF type, and put dowels or a mechanical fitting into loaded joints. Lip exposed edges in solid maple and fit the lipping before final sanding, since a joint line shows more on a plain pale face than on a figured one. Sand to 180 or 240 grit and no more. Choose the finish carefully and test it: most oils carry an amber that pushes maple towards yellow, and a water based or clear matt lacquer is what keeps it cool.
Where not to use it
Dry interiors, because the core is still MDF. If you want pale with more character in it, ash is the same tone with far stronger figure. All the species and thicknesses are listed on the veneered MDF page, alongside the rest of the MDF range.
