4 mm oak veneered MDF is the thinnest board in the range, with real crown cut white oak on both faces. It is the one to use where a panel has to look like oak and take up almost no room at all.
Thin is the point. This is what goes on cabinet backs that are actually seen, drawer bottoms in a piece where somebody will open the drawer and look, infill panels inside a frame, and curved work, because at 4 mm the board will take a gentle radius around a former without steaming or laminating. There is oak on both sides, the A face for show and the B back as a balancer, which is what keeps a sheet this thin flat instead of curling.
Cutting and handling
At 8.58 kg you can carry a full sheet under one arm. Score the veneer along the cut line on the face side before the main pass, then cut with a sharp fine tooth blade. At 4 mm the underside breaks out easily, so lay a scrap board under the line and support the offcut so it cannot drop away. Keep the sheets flat and stacked while they wait; a thin veneered board left leaning takes a bow and a bowed panel will not sit into a frame.
Fixing and painting
There is no edge to speak of, so fix through the face with pins or glue it to a substrate. Iron on oak edging is the only practical edge treatment here. Sand to 180 or 240 grit and stop; go further and you are through the veneer, which on a thin board means into the core with no way back. Finish both faces even if only one is seen, or the panel will move.
Where not to use it
An MDF core means dry interiors only, and it will not span or carry anything at this thickness. If the panel is doing structural work start at 12 mm, and for cabinet work go to 19 mm.
