39 mm oak veneered MDF is the thickest board in the range. It is a slab rather than a panel, and it is ordered when the depth of the piece is part of the design.
Thick reception counters, feature door leaves, solid looking shelving, seating and deep reveals are what it becomes, usually one or two pieces in a scheme rather than a whole fit out. At 39 mm the edge is deep enough to take a substantial solid oak lipping and then be shaped, so a stacked or stepped profile can be worked into the piece and still leave material behind it. Nothing thinner in the range gives you that.
Cutting and handling
At 83.65 kg it is at the limit of a two person lift and should be planned as one, with a trolley or a third pair of hands and a route that has been measured. No site saw will take this in one pass, so work the cutting list out early and ask about having the sizes cut before delivery. Sharp blade, slow feed, extraction and a P2 or P3 mask, and somewhere to stack some very heavy offcuts.
Fixing and painting
Everything holds at this depth, long edge screws included, so the question is whether the frame under it will carry the weight. Glue and screw the substructure and check the wall fixings before a piece like this is hung. Lip in solid oak before any profile is cut, then sand lipping and face together to 180 or 240 grit. Any deeper and you are into the veneer at exactly the point where it shows.
Where not to use it
It is still an MDF core and still a dry interior board, and the weight is not structural strength. Unless the piece genuinely needs the depth, 26 mm is far easier to move and fix. The full range of thicknesses and species is on the veneered MDF page, with the rest of the boards on the MDF page.
