12 mm moisture resistant MDF 3050×1525 mm is the wide sheet in the green range. Three hundred and five extra millimetres across the sheet does not sound like much until you are laying out a bath panel or a ceiling.
That width is what removes the joint. A standard sheet rips to two pieces a little over 600 mm; this one rips to two over 760 mm, which covers a bath panel, a deep boxing return or a wide splashback substrate in a single piece. On a bathroom ceiling it means fewer runs and, more to the point, fewer seams overhead for steam to work into.
Cutting and handling
At 42.4 kg it is not the weight that decides this but the size: it will not go through a standard doorway flat and it needs two people on edge. Lay your cutting list out on paper before anything is cut, because the saving only exists if the pieces are nested to use the width, and the first wrong cut throws it away. Full length support, sharp fine tooth blade, extraction and a P2 or P3 mask. Two trestles are not enough under a sheet this size.
Fixing and painting
Fix through the face into battens or studs with stainless or plated screws, and pilot near edges. On a wide panel get the support behind it right first: the wider the unsupported area, the more obvious any dishing becomes once the light catches it. Seal all cut edges and prime both faces, particularly on a ceiling panel where the back is unreachable afterwards.
Where not to use it
Steam and splashes yes; a shower lining or anything outdoors, no, and Tricoya MDF is what goes outside. If you do not actually need the width, the 3050×1220 mm sheet gives the same length for less, and the 2440×1220 mm board is cheaper again. The wide sheet also comes in 18 mm. Both sizes and every thickness are set out on the moisture resistant MDF page, with the rest of the boards on the MDF page.
