9 mm fire retardant MDF 3050×1220 mm is the light lining board in the long format, stiff enough to hold its shape between battens without adding much depth to the wall.
The extra 610 mm matters most on ceilings and casings, where every joint you avoid is a length of filling and sanding done overhead. A corridor ceiling laid out in 3050 mm panels has noticeably fewer lines in it than the same corridor in standard sheets, and on a rated ceiling that is also fewer joints for someone to query later. The board is coloured red through its thickness and classified Euroclass B under EN 13501-1, meaning it resists catching light and feeds a fire very little once one starts, with the s and d letters quoted alongside covering smoke and falling burning material.
Cutting and handling
At 26.1 kg it is a one person lift on the flat and a two person job up a stair, and either way handle it on edge. A 3 m sheet carried flat will crack across the middle before you get through a doorway with it. Set it on full length supports to cut, use a sharp fine toothed blade, and expect the density to blunt it faster than softwood does. Work with extraction or outside, wearing a P2 or P3 mask, and sweep the red dust before it gets carried into the finished rooms.
Fixing and painting
On a ceiling, get the fixing centres right first: this thickness holds its shape between normal battens but will dish if they are spread out. Screw through the face and pilot within 15 mm of an edge. Prime both faces before the panels go up, because getting a roller onto the back of a fixed ceiling panel is impossible and an unsealed face takes up moisture and pulls the board out of flat.
Where not to use it
Not structural, not for humid rooms, and not a fire resisting board in the sense of holding a compartment. If the run is under 2440 mm, the standard sheet is cheaper and far easier to get into a building. For a lining that takes handling, 18 mm is the better call. The full range is listed on the fire retardant MDF page, with the other grades on the MDF page.
