22 mm fire retardant MDF 3050×1220 mm is bought almost entirely for one thing: a long surface with no joint in it.
Reception counters, hotel desks, bar fronts and continuous worktops in rated spaces are the jobs. A joint across a counter top is where the finish eventually cracks and where every mark collects, so getting 3050 mm out of one board rather than joining two is the difference between a top that stays looking new and one that does not. The board is red through the mass and classified B-s1,d0 under EN 13501-1, meaning slow to catch, very little smoke, and nothing burning dropping off it, so the counter meets the same spec as the walls around it.
Cutting and handling
At 63.9 kg this is a heavy, long, unforgiving sheet and it needs two strong people and a cleared route. Make sure your saw actually clears 22 mm at the angle you need before the delivery arrives. Support the panel along its whole length, keep the riving knife in and feed a rip slowly, because a dense board this size stores tension and will bind on the blade. Extraction and a P2 or P3 mask, and give yourself space to walk the full length of the cut.
Fixing and painting
The edge is deep enough to take a routed profile that becomes the front detail of the counter, and on a board this dense it comes out crisp. Glue and screw the substructure, pilot anything near an edge, and prime the machined front twice before the topcoat so it does not read duller than the face beside it.
Where not to use it
It is not load bearing and it is not damp tolerant, so a counter with a sink in it wants a moisture resistant panel and a separate look at the fire spec. Where the run fits inside 2440 mm, the standard sheet is easier in every way. The rest of the thicknesses are on the fire retardant MDF page, alongside the other boards on the MDF page.
