6 mm moisture resistant MDF in the standard 2440 x 1220 mm sheet. The thinnest green board we carry, for lining and facing work in rooms where the air is regularly damp.
What this board is for
At this thickness the panel is a lining material rather than a structural one. Its most common use is as a substrate behind tiling and splashbacks, where it sits against a damp wall and has to stay stable under an adhesive bed. It also does bathroom and utility panelling, cabinet backs in vanity units and under sink carcasses, and facing panels applied over an existing surface that is sound but ugly.
Because it is thin it will follow a slightly uneven wall rather than bridging across the high points, which is usually what you want on a lining job. It will also take a gentle curve, which the heavier green boards will not do without kerfing.
Sealing matters more here than anywhere
Every cut edge on this board is open fibre, and on a thin panel the edges make up a much larger share of the sheet than they do on a heavy one. Seal them before the panel goes anywhere near a wet room: a thinned primer or a dedicated edge sealer on every cut, including the small ones around pipe penetrations and waste outlets.
If you are tiling onto it, seal the face as well and use a flexible adhesive. A rigid cement based adhesive laid straight onto unsealed board is the usual reason tiles start lifting along a bath edge.
Cutting, fixing and handling
Support the whole sheet when cutting and support the offcut too, because a thin panel will drop into the blade and tear out on the underside. Use a sharp fine tooth blade.
Fix with adhesive and pins rather than screws. There is not enough material here for a thread to hold, and a screw driven into the face will usually break through the back. Use stainless or properly plated fixings throughout: in a damp room ordinary bright zinc will corrode and bleed rust through the paint within a couple of years.
