6 mm fire retardant MDF 3050×1220 mm is the thinnest board in the long format. The reason to order it over the standard sheet is simple: it reaches the ceiling.
At 3050 mm the panel covers a normal storey height in one piece with a bit left for trimming, which on a thin skin is worth a lot. A horizontal joint in a flush lining has to be filled, sanded and painted, and it will still show up in raking light across a corridor months later. Losing it is often the whole reason a designer asks for the long board. Like every panel here it is red through the mass and classified Euroclass B under EN 13501-1, which means it is slow to catch and contributes very little to a fire, with the letters quoted beside the class covering how much smoke comes off and whether anything burning drops from the face.
Cutting and handling
At 17.4 kg one person can move it, but a long thin sheet flexes badly, so carry it on edge and never flat by two corners. Support it properly on trestles before you cut, because it will sag into the blade in the middle of a 3 m run and wander off the line. Fine toothed blade, good face up, scrap board underneath. Red dust everywhere, so extraction or outdoors and a P2 or P3 mask.
Fixing and painting
Thin board needs a continuous backing or battens at close centres; over a long panel any gap in the support shows as a hollow when the light rakes across it. Fix through the face only. Prime and paint both sides of a thin sheet, even the hidden face, because a panel this thin sealed on one side only will bow towards the unsealed side over a few weeks.
Where not to use it
Dry interiors, non load bearing, and never anywhere a spill will reach the core. If the run is short enough to come out of a standard board, the 2440 mm sheet is easier to handle and costs less.
