15 mm fire retardant MDF 3050×1220 mm is the middle thickness in the long sheet, and it exists for tall components rather than for flat linings.
Door linings on a high opening, full height shelving uprights, pilasters and framed panel work all need a piece longer than a standard sheet gives and none of them need 18 mm of board. Cutting them from a 3050 mm panel means one piece instead of two and a spliced joint, which on an upright carrying shelves is a structural improvement as well as a visual one. Same specification as the rest of the range, red right through, and classified B-s1,d0 under EN 13501-1: slow to catch, very little smoke off it, and nothing burning falling from the face.
Cutting and handling
At 43.5 kg over three metres it is more awkward than heavy. Get a second pair of hands and carry it on edge. Cut on full length supports with a sharp fine toothed blade, and mark and cut the long rips first while you still have a full sheet to reference from. Extraction, P2 or P3 mask, and the usual red dust everywhere afterwards. It is worth cutting outside if the building is anywhere near finished.
Fixing and painting
At 15 mm a shelf pin hole leaves timber either side and most cabinet fittings will seat, though a confirmat will not bury itself fully in the edge. Pilot every edge fixing and keep it central in the thickness. Prime and paint the full length of an upright before it goes in, since once a tall piece is fixed between floor and ceiling you will never get a brush behind it. Two coats of MDF primer, sanded between, then the topcoat.
Where not to use it
It is not a load bearing component and it will not tolerate damp. For pieces short enough to come from a standard board the 2440 mm sheet is the cheaper answer, and for heavily loaded uprights step up in thickness. The whole range is on the fire retardant MDF page, with the rest of the boards on the MDF page.
