6 mm moisture resistant MDF 3050×1220 mm is the thin green board in the long sheet, and the reason to pay for the length is that it runs floor to ceiling in one piece.
A cross joint in a thin facing has to be filled, sanded and painted, and in a bathroom it is also the line that steam finds first. On full height panelling behind a bath, inside a shower enclosure surround or up the side of a cistern casing, having no horizontal joint at all is worth considerably more than the extra cost of the sheet. The green tint runs through the board, so a cut edge still identifies itself.
Cutting and handling
At 17 kg it is not the weight that makes this awkward, it is the length, so carry it on edge. A three metre sheet of 6 mm board taken flat by two corners will fold before it reaches the room. Put it on full length trestles to cut, because unsupported it sags into the blade halfway along and wanders off the line. Good face up, fine tooth blade, scrap underneath, and a P2 or P3 mask with extraction.
Fixing and painting
A thin sheet this long needs continuous backing or battens at close centres, and any gap in the support behind it shows as a hollow the moment light rakes across the panel. Fix through the face with stainless or plated pins and screws. Prime both faces, including the one that will be against the wall: a thin board sealed on one side only will bow towards the unsealed face within weeks, and in a damp room it will do it faster.
Where not to use it
Humidity yes, standing water no, and never outdoors, where Tricoya MDF is the board that lasts. If the run is short enough to come out of a standard sheet, the 2440 mm board is cheaper and much easier to get through a house. Where the panel has to take any knocks, start at 12 mm. The full range is on the moisture resistant MDF page, and the other grades on the MDF page.
