22 mm moisture resistant MDF in the 3050 x 1220 mm sheet. The heavy green board, in the length that gives a long worktop or a full height panel without a joint.
What the extra length is for
22 mm is what you move to when the panel has to carry load or read as solid. Worktop and island substrates, laundry and utility benches, window boards over a wide opening, deep shelving that would sag in a lighter board, and heavy vanity tops all sit here. So does anything getting a stone or laminate surface bonded to it, where the substrate has to stay dead flat.
Length matters more on this thickness than on any other in the range. A worktop with a butt joint in it has a line that water finds, that swells first, and that will always be the visible defect on an otherwise good run. At 3050 mm a galley worktop or a long island substrate comes out of one piece, and so does a full height end panel to match it.
Where the run is shorter than 2440 mm, the 2440 x 1220 mm sheet is the cheaper board for the same job.
Weight and handling
A full sheet is roughly 61 kg. Treat that as a two person lift with a clear route planned, and do not attempt a stair turn without a third pair of hands. Store it flat and fully supported: a heavy sheet left leaning against a wall for a week takes a bow that no amount of screwing down will fully pull out, and a bowed worktop substrate is scrap.
Cut it with a track saw on the flat rather than feeding it through a table saw. At this weight the panel wins any argument with the fence.
Fixings, sealing and finishing
The extra depth gives real screw hold, so this is the board to use where hinges, brackets, rails or a heavy top are fixed straight into the panel. Pre-drill and countersink near edges, and use stainless or properly plated fixings anywhere humidity is part of the job.
Seal the edges before installation, and pay particular attention to the front edge of a worktop and any cut out for a sink, tap or hob. That is where water gets into a substrate, and once it is in the swelling is permanent. Prime face and edges with a dedicated MDF primer and finish with a moisture tolerant topcoat.
