38 mm moisture resistant MDF in the standard 2440 x 1220 mm sheet. The heaviest green board we carry, for surfaces in damp environments that have to read as solid and stay dead flat under sustained load.
What this board is for
Commercial washroom and changing room counter tops, laboratory and technical bench substrates, heavy duty worktops and servery counters in catering and hospitality, thick plinths and pedestals, and shelving in stores and plant rooms carrying weight that would visibly bow anything lighter.
The strongest reason to specify it is the same one that applies to any thick panel: anywhere a top would otherwise be built up from two sheets bonded together and then lipped, this board does it in a single piece. No glue line to telegraph through the finish, no risk of the two laminations taking up moisture at different rates and cupping against each other, and no extra day in the workshop. In a damp room that second point matters more than it does in a dry one.
What thickness alone will not fix
It is worth being blunt about this, because the assumption behind ordering a heavy board is often that it will survive conditions a lighter one would not. It will not. This is still moisture resistant MDF: it handles humidity, not water. A 38 mm sheet standing in a puddle will swell just as surely as a thin one.
Seal both faces and every edge, seal the inside of every cut out, and treat the bottom edge of anything meeting a floor as the critical detail. The mass buys you time, not immunity.
Handling and cutting
A full sheet weighs roughly 85 kg. This is a trolley job, not a lift, and it is worth planning the route into the building before the delivery arrives.
Check the saw will take the depth of cut in a single pass; a plunge saw on a rail will struggle at this thickness. Support the sheet on both sides of every cut, because an offcut this heavy will tear the underside as it falls. Screws hold well, fixings should be stainless or properly plated, and pilot drilling near an edge is still worth the time.
