30 mm fire retardant MDF is the thickest board in the range. It is specified where a panel has to read as solid: bench seating, thick reveals, feature walls, column casings and heavy counter tops in rated spaces.
The extra depth changes what you can do with the edge more than anything else. At 30 mm a rebate, a deep chamfer or a stepped profile can be cut straight into the board and still leave plenty of material behind it, so details that would need a built up lipping on a thinner panel come out of one piece. It is the same rated board as the rest of the range, red through the mass and classified Euroclass B under EN 13501-1, which in plain terms means it takes a long time to catch and adds very little to a fire once one is going. The letters quoted alongside the class cover smoke and falling droplets, and a d0 rating means nothing burning comes off the face.
Cutting and handling
At 69.7 kg it is a two person lift at best and unwieldy as well as heavy, so clear the route and have somewhere to set it down. Very few site saws will cut this in one pass, and a bevel is out of the question for most, so plan cuts around what your machine will actually do. Sharp TCT blade, slow feed, extraction and a P2 or P3 mask.
Fixing and painting
Fixings hold firmly at this depth and a long screw into the edge will not burst a face. Glue and screw everything structural. Prime the edges twice over before the faces get their second coat, because a 30 mm end grain will otherwise show as a dull band beside a satin face.
Where not to use it
It is still a non load bearing dry interior board. Do not put it in a bathroom and do not treat its weight as strength in a structure. If a lining is all that is needed, 18 mm is far more sensible to carry and fix. For a run longer than 2440 mm, the 3050 mm sheet is the same board. Every thickness is listed on the fire retardant MDF page, with the wider range on the MDF page.
